Blackbirds fly away with Kick Off Klassic

It was all Scammon Bay all the time.

The boys and girls teams swept team titles at last week's Kick Off Klassic Basketball Tournament at Scammon Bay.

The Blackbirds also swept the top individual awards, with Justin Ulak and Jaclyn Hunter each earning Most Valuable Player honors.

The Scammon Bay boys beat Chevak in the title tilt. St. Mary's placed third.

In addition to Ulak, the boys all-tournament team featured Scott Kaganak of Scammon Bay, Conor Ferguson of Chevak, Steven Fancyboy of Kotlik and Brian Andrews of Chevak.

On the girls side, Scammon Bay knocked off Hooper Bay in the championship game. Chevak was third.

Hunter was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Olivia Kaganak. The other all-stars were Mary Olson of Chevak and Allison Lake and Marissa Tomaganuk of Hooper Bay.

The tournament featured teams from Scammon Bay, Chevak, Kotlik, Alakanuk, Emmonak, Mountain Village, St. Mary's and Akiachak.
