Bird and egg harvest closed
On the Y-K Delta
The spring waterfowl season on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is closed for 30 days according to a press release from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service/Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. The closure is designed to protect migratory birds during the period when egg laying begins and young birds are fledged.
From June 9 through July 9 harvest of birds or eggs is not allowed.
Also in effect are special closures for Cackling Canada geese and Black Brant.
The annual 30-day closure comes with the initiation of the nesting of migratory birds. Service staff field reports show that nesting has begun for waterfowl and other migratory birds. The closure comes after consultation between the Association of Village Council Presidents Waterfowl Conservation Committee and Fish and Wildlife biologists.
