A little bit of fishing allowed
On the Y-K Delta
A few days of subsistence salmon fishing for chums and sockeyes, but not kings, in the Kuskokwim River opened Friday, according to an Alaska Department of Fish and Game announcement on June 20. The hours and gear vary by area. Areas of the Yukon River are closed to subsistence fishing according to ADF&G on June 20. KYUK reported that people were fishing in spite of the closed status. Details on Yukon openings are available at 949-1731 or toll-free 1-866-479-7387. Information about both rivers is on local radio stations and faxed to villages and fish processing plants, or see www.adfg.alaska.gov.
