Man arrested for assault

On Aug. 17, Aniak-based troopers received a call from a 23-year-old female resident of Sleetmute who reported that her boyfriend, 35-year-old Donavon Alexie, recently from Bethel, had punched her three times in the face the previous night. Troopers responded and arrested Alexie after conducting an investigation which revealed that he had also strangulated the victim until she blacked out and collapsed. The victim had swelling and bruises to the area around her eye, her forehead, her cheek, both lips, both arms and her throat. Alexie was taken into custody without further incident, charged with DV Assault II, DV Assault III, and DV Assault IV. Alexie was transported and remanded into the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Facility without bail. Alcohol was a factor in this incident, according to troopers.
