Steel Salmon and Raven event is Saturday

The Kuskokwim Art Guild ninth annual Steel Salmon and Raven auction is planned for Sept. 22 at the Yupit Piciryarait Cultural Center. Chef Tiffany Tony will serve up a luscious crab dinner and many of Bethel’s renowned bakers will supply additional desserts. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for those with dinner tickets and the auction starts at 7 p.m. Returning auctioneer Shane Iverson will work the crowd with help from his beautiful assistants Jasmine Polk and Tina Harness. Intermission music will be provided acoustically by Mike McIntyre. In addition to the live auction there will be a silent auction with items donated by Art Guild members and regional artists.

Last year’s top price of $2,000 was paid for the “Kuskokwim Gold” stain glass mosaic by Reyne Athanas. This year there are 10 salmon and 10 ravens undergoing amazing transformations by Bethel’s best artists and crafts persons.

For a preview stop by the YPCC during regular hours to see this year’s selection and pick up dinner tickets at the same time.

Last year funds raised from the auction went to two $1,000 scholarships to Nikki Nick and Tina Harness and an additional $4,000 to summer youth art camp scholarships for 33 campers.
