Fire claims Alukanuk woman

A home fire in Alukanuk took the life of an 88-year-old woman on Sept. 12. According to the Alaska Division of Fire and Life Safety, the woman was trapped in her home when fire engulfed the exit doorway and she suffered severe burns when trying to escape the fire. She was medevaced to Bethel where she succumbed to her injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
