Three lost in boat sinking

After a mayday call from a boat that was sinking in Goodnews Bay near Platinum on Sept. 7, a search party was quickly launched, according to Alaska State Troopers. A Yute Aviation pilot who was dropping off passengers in the area spotted two people in the water. The rescue party was guided to Richard Ross, 57, and Sam Pavala, 49, both of Goodnews Bay. They were pulled from the water and taken to the clinic in Platinum. After health aides exhausted all resuscitation efforts, the two were pronounced dead. Angela Chingliak, 28 of Goodnews Bay, was also aboard the boat, but at press time had not been found.
