Airport expansion to be revised to save cemeteries, park
On the Y-K Delta
A plan for the expansion of the Bethel Airport will be revised after protests that the initial plan encroached on the civilian and veterans cemeteries, and the Alaska Territorial Guard park, according to KYUK.
The Joint Alaska State Legislature Veterans Caucus, of which Rep. Bob Herron (D-Bethel) is a member, upon reviewing the plan informed the Alaska Department of Transportation that the plan had a road running through the park.
Initially unaware that the planned expansion would affect the cemeteries and park, DOT is revising the plan to accommodate them. Once the revisions are made DOT will initate a review process and ask for the public’s advice.
