Travelers found safe

On the Y-K Delta

Two people were reported missing March 10 from a snowmachine trip from Bethel to Marshall. Matthew Heckman, 28 of Marshall, on one snowmachine, and Joseph Fitka, 32, and Melissa Alick, 34, on another left Bethel bound for Marshall at 7 p.m. They became separated in a ground blizzard about seven miles from Bethel. Heckman attempted to locate them but did not. Bethel Search and Rescue set out at daybreak March 11 to look from the missing snowmachiners. Just before 1 p.m. a trooper pilot found them 13 miles south of Russian Mission where the snowmachine was inoperable and they had made camp. A ground team took them to Russian Mission and they were reported to be uninjured. Alcohol was not reported to be a factor.
