Mason Bean Polks and family participate in the kindergarten round up last month. The round up helps the school district and students prepare for the school year.

The BRHS class of 2026 will start kindergarten this fall as the class of 2013 heads out the door.

Mikelnguut Elitnaurviat School and Ayaprun held their annual kindergarten round up April 24 through 26. Fifty-five new kindergarteners for M.E. school and 25 for Ayaprun were pre-registered and received free medical screenings with the help of Bethel Family Clinic, YKHC Dental and Optical Department, Bethel Public Health Center and LKSD hearing specialists.

“It was a much bigger turnout than last year and the event gives us a good idea as to how many new kindergarteners we will have at Ayaprun and M.E. Schools.” said Mikelgnuut Principal Joshua Gill.“ The one stop medical screenings provided free by the different agencies were also valuable as parents were able to take care of everything needed in order to start school”

He also expressed appreciation to Front Street Restaurant, Sammy’s Market, A.C. Store and Swanson’s Store for providing food for the three-day event. “These businesses have supported other school events and we are grateful for their participation,” said Gill.

People who have a child who will be five years old by Sept. 1 and missed the annual kindergarten round up are asked to call Joshua Gill at 543-2845 ext 3601.
