All in this together
Letter to the Editor
Several decades ago, two Natives got arrested for taking a goose out season on the North Slope by either the state or the federal government, I do not remember which. As the trial date approached more than 100 other Natives showed up and had a goose or said they had taken a goose and wanted to be prosecuted too.
The prosecutors looked at the situation and dropped the charges against the first two. This is what should have happen with those were arrested and just prosecuted for taking fish during a closure.
I think it is unconstitutional for escapement to be balanced on the backs of the personal use fishermen and hopefully somebody will take it to court on the much broader issue than just religious freedom.
The issue is more than just Native issue. This is issue the effects all noncommercial fishermen; we are all in this together. And if “we do not hang together we will all hang separately.”
