On Aug. 25, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game at Bethel announced that the department does not anticipate announcing any further commercial salmon fishing periods in Subdistrict 1-B, Kuskokwim River, District W-4, Quinhagak, and District W-5, Goodnews Bay, for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Subsistence fishing is expected to remain open 24-hours per day for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Subdistrict 1-B, Kuskokwim River - Preliminary harvest during the Aug. 23 commercial period was 5,454 coho and 16 chum salmon from 186 permits. Harvest and catch rates for coho salmon were below average for this date. There have been a total of 11 commercial periods in Subdistrict 1-B since the commercial season opened on July 16. Preliminary total harvest for the 2013 commercial salmon fishing season was 163 king; 52,231 chum; 768 sockeye; and 113,959 coho salmon. The total harvests of king, sockeye, and coho salmon were below average, while the harvest of chum salmon was average.

District 4, Quinhagak - Preliminary harvest during the Aug. 23 commercial period was 1 king; 8 sockeye; 20 chum; and 1,361 coho salmon from 52 permits. The harvest and catch rates for coho salmon were below average for this date. There have been a total of 18 commercial periods in District W-4 since the commercial season began July 2. Preliminary total harvest for the 2013 commercial salmon fishing season was 2,052 king; 57,978 chum; 26,389 sockeye; and 21,059 coho salmon. The total harvests of king, sockeye, and coho salmon were below average, while the harvest of chum salmon was average

District 5, Goodnews Bay - Preliminary harvest during the Aug. 23 commercial period was 80 sockeye; 3 chum; and 3,159 coho salmon from 28 permits. The harvest and catch rates for coho salmon were above average for this date. There have been a total of 21 commercial periods in District W-5 since the commercial season began June 29, 2013. Preliminary total harvest for the 2013 commercial salmon fishing season was 495 king; 12,651 chum; 24,521 sockeye; and 22,581 coho salmon. The total harvests of king and sockeye salmon were below average, while the harvests of chum and coho salmon were above average.

As of Aug. 23, total passage through the Middle Fork Goodnews River Weir is 1,166 king; 23,007 sockeye; 27,636 chum; and 3,232 coho salmon.

Further announcements will be made from the Bethel Fish and Game office, on the state web site, http://www.adfg.alaska.gov, and local radio stations. News releases will be faxed to area villages and local fish processing companies.
