Old Catholic Church burns
In the early hours of Aug. 25, the original Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bethel was totaled by a fire. The inside is charred but the structure is standing. Police and fire departments received the call about 3:30 a.m. and the fire fighters worked at extinguising the blaze for over three hours.
The church was built in 1943-44 and used until a new church was builts a dozen years later. The structure had served as the parish hall and meeting room.
