Bethel Wildlife Troopers received a report on Oct. 20 from Ray Watson, 53 of Bethel, that he found a dead muskox at his fish camp on the Kuskokwim River near the old airport. On Oct. 21 the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a necropsy of the animal. The animal was an otherwise healthy 3-year-old bull muskox. The animal died from at least one gunshot wound. No apparent effort was made to salvage the meat, hide or skull of the animal. The meat and hide were spoiled and not salvageable. The animal appeared to have been dead for three or four days, and was likely shot during the week of Oct. 14.
